Two sadhus nabbed for murdering woman

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Dec 11 (UNI) The Khultabad police have arrested two sadhus for allegedly murdering a 65-year-old woman and robbing her ornaments ten days back.

The case of murder was solved yesterday when the police grilled the two sadhus. They had taken the woman to Khuldabad by promising to double her ornaments.

Police said the sadhus, Babangiri Maharaj alias Samadhan Wagh and Devichand Gajanan Chungde, were living for one-and-a-half years at Lasur Station in the district. They got acquainted with the villagers including the woman, Sumanbai Vitthalrao Chavan. Some days ago, Devichand had promised Sumanbai to double her ornaments.

Few days ago, Sumanbai suddenly went missing and so did the sadhus. But, the village sarpanch had spotted her with the duo at the bus stand on the day she went missing.

The sources said the two had taken the woman to a deserted place in the Ellora in Khuldabad taluka, where they divested her of the ornaments worth Rs 30,000 and then allegedly clubbed her to death by a stone and sticks. They hid her body in the bushes.

Her son Kishor informed the police about the information he got from the sarpanch. Acting on the information, the police took Devichand into custody from the Government Medical College Hospital here.

The sadhus led the police to the place where they had hidden the body.
