SC dismisses plea of UP employees challenging repatriation orders

New Delhi, Dec 11 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed around 21,000 employees of the Uttar Pradesh government to go back to their parent departments and resume duties within two weeks from today.

A Bench comprising Justices H K Sema and P K Balasubramanyan dismissed the petition of UP Gram Panchayat Adhikari Sangh and others challenging the repatriation orders.

About 55,548 employees from eight departments, including tubewell operators from Irrigation Department, were sent to gram panchayats for providing multi-purpose workers and the government order dated July 26, 1999 designated them as Gram Panchayat Vikas Adhikaris.

Around 20,000 of them were repatriated to their original departments in 2001. In 2004, another 15000 empoloyees were repatriated. The UP government finally issued an order dated July 19, 2005 ordering repatriation of all the employees.
