SC directs Raj University to suggest ways to check student violence
New Delhi, Dec 11 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the Rajasthan University Teachers' Association to file an affidavit to suggest ways for checking violence against teachers during University and college students' union elections.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal and Justice C K Thakker also directed the petitioner association to recommend measures to provide a channel to the teachers for seeking redress of their grievances.
The Court gave four weeks to the petitioner to file their affidavit and granted another four weeks to the state government and Rajasthan University to file their responses to the affidavit within two weeks thereafter.
The Court directed the matter to be tagged with the main case, which is pending before the bench headed by Justice Arijit Pasayat.
A petitions seeking to reform the students' union elections, ragging and other problems like increased politicisation and criminalisation of university students' elections, is already pending in the court.
