Rural Devp Ministry to hold meet to review NREGA
New Delhi, Dec 11: The Rural Development Ministry has convened a meeting tomorrow to take stock of the status of the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) in 85 districts of the country.
About 100 MPs, including some Central Ministers, who are Chairmen of the Monitoring and Vigilance Committee under the Act from the 85 Districts in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and all North-Eastern States will take part in the meeting.
Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, about a month back in a letter, had requested the MPs of all 200 Districts identified under the Act to give leadership to the programme to ensure that the scheme was implemented in the spirit intended under the Act and review the implementation of the scheme in meetings of the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee.
They were further requested to verify the processes in a few villages coming under their respective constituencies. The MPs were also urged to apprise the Ministry of their findings for taking further corrective measures in order to ensure effective and efficient implementation of the programme. The Minister wanted to discuss their observation in a meeting with them.
