Petition seeking removal of Akademi President before HC

Kochi, Dec 11 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today directed the State Government to file an affidavit on a petition that sought the removal of Mr M Mukundan as President of the Kerala Sahithya Akademi.

Petitioner, William John, argued before a Division Bench of Chief Justice V K Bali and Justice C N Ramachandran Nair that Mr Mukundan belonged to Mahe, an enclave of Puducherry, and is not a Keralite.

Hence he was not entitled to be appointed as President of the Akademi.

The Court directed the petitioner to produce the relevant rules governing the appointment of the Akademi President and adjourned the case to December 18.
