Oppn stalls proceedings over beedi issue

Hyderabad, Dec 11: Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned today as the Opposition parties stalled the proceedings, protesting against the Centre's decision to print 'skull and bones' health warning on beedi packs.

As soon as the Winter Session of the Assembly began, members of the TDP, TRS and CPM rushed into the Well of the House with Speaker K R Suresh Reddy announcing that he was disallowing the adjournment motion notices given by them.

The Opposition raised slogans in support of the beedi workers and demanded scrapping of the health warning. Despite repeated pleas from the Chair, the Opposition continued to remain in the Well of the House following which the Speaker announced the adjournment of the House.

The Speaker also disallowed the adjournment motion notices given by the CPI on the issue of the implementation G O 610, the BJP on the farmers issue and Samajwadi Party Member Komireddy Ramulu on the Engineering and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET).
