NSR to ensure security in BPO industry: NASSCOM

Kolkata, Dec 11: To ensure security for the BPO companies, NASSCOM has launched National Skills Registry (NSR) which provides verified database of skill sets and talents of the human resources.

Speaking to sources, NASSCOM president Kiran Karnik said, during the ongoing INFOCOM 2006, the NSR is a an online registry of workers in the industry and include the employee's professional history, educational and personal background.

''Data is validated through an independent third party but is owned by the employee. When questions about security of data is an important concern among the global BPO clients, NSR is step towards sustaining India's competitive advantage in the global market,'' Karnik said.

NSR would ensure that there was a verified database of skill sets and talents of the human resources within the Industry, with independent background checks. This would enable them to shift within the industry with a minimum of paperwork and reference/verification checks, he said.

NSR enables employees to find jobs quickly and efficiently, and offers employers an opportunity to recruit the best. Independent verification of date and biometric identification will not increase security for companies and customers, but would protect employees from criminal elements seeking to misuse their ID.

Currently the total number of applications till date were 50,000 and 30 companies registered which account for approximately 30 per cent. Satyam, Mphasis, CMC, TCS, GENPACT, ICICI First source (formerly ICICI One source),among others, have registered in NSR.

National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) is the permier trade body and the chamber of commerce for the IT software and services industry in India with around 1050 members, of which over 200 are global companies from the US, UK, EU, Japan, China and other countries.
