Tamil Kumar shot dead in police encounter

Shimoga (Karnataka), Dec 11: A notorious rowdy sheeter Tamil Kumar, involved in many cases of murder and dacoity, was shot dead by the police after a brief encounter near here today.

Circle Inspector Shivakumar said that on a tip off, the special team formed to nab the fugitive found the accused holed up at Halebenavalli Village on the outskirts of the city. On seeing the police he started firing on the police team forcing them to retaliate.

Police fired three rounds killing the criminal on the spot. He was allegedly involved in many criminal acts including four murder, two attempt to murder and several dacoity cases.

One of the bullets fired by Tamil Kumar hit the bullet proof jacket worn by Mr Shivakumar.

One pistol and some ammunition were seized from the possession of Tamil Kumar.
