NHRC seeks report from Ranchi DM on juveniles delinquents

New Delhi, Dec 11 (UNI) Taking suomotu cognizance of a newspaper report on juveniles delinquents being kept with rapists and dacoits in Ranchi remand home, the National Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the Ranchi District Magistrate on the issue.

The Commission has directed that a copy of the news item be sent to the Ranchi District Magistrate.

According to the November 27 report, 239 inmates were languishing in Ranchi Child Remand Home and out of these 109 inmates are in the age group of 18-22.

''Most of them are habitual offenders who have committed heinous crimes. The rest of the inmates are below 14 years of age and have been kept in the Home on petty offences,'' it added.
