Men's golf team wins Silver in Doha

Doha, Dec 11 (UNI) The Indian golf quartet of Gaganjeet Bhullar, Joseph Chakola, Chiragh Kumar and Anirban Lahiri joined hands to win the Silver medal in the men's team event of the 15th Asian Games here today.

India finished second in the team event with a four-day total of 849 after rounds of 210, 211, 211 and 217.

Lahiri (72), Chiragh (72) and Bhullar (73) provided the best three scores for India while Joseph Chakola went seven-over 77.

South Korea won the Gold with a four-day total of 836, while Chinese Taipei bagged the Bronze at 850.

In the individual event, Bhullar came up with the best show by an India, finishing tied seventh with a four-day aggregate of 283.

After three successive rounds of 70, Bhullar needed something special for a podium finish but the Indian ended up retuning his only over-par round of the competition and the one-over 73 put paid to his hopes of an individual medal.

Compatriot Chiragh (285) was tied for 11th after rounds of 71, 71, 71 and 72.

Anirban Lahiri had began with a bang but finished with a whimper and the Indian stood tied 14th at 286 (69,73,72,72). The other Indian in the fray, Joseph Chakola (290), finished tied 18th.

Korean Kyung Tae Kim (276) won the Gold, followed by Cheng Tsung Pan of Chinese Taipei (277) and Philippino Michael Eric Bibat (279).

In women's team section, India finished sixth with a four-day total of 570. Korea (534) won the Gold, followed by Japan (547) and Chinese Taipei (550).

In the individual event, Meghna Bal (281) finished tied ninth after rounds of 71, 70, 70 and 70 while compatriots Vaishvi Sinha and Sharmila Nicollet shared the 16th spot at 299.

Korean So Yeon Ryo (263) won the Gold, the Silver went to Japan's Mika Miyazato (272) and the Bronze was bagged by Korean He Yong Choi (273).
