India beat Qatar in 8th-9th playoff

Doha, Dec 11 (UNI) India scored ten times in the second half to register an emphatic 17-5 victory over Qatar in the eighth-ninth classification match of the rugby competition at the Asian Games here today.

Both the sides were evenly matched at 7-5 in favour of India in the first half. But, the winners overwhelmed their rivals in the second session denying them any goal and in turn pumped in ten goals.

India had just one missed tackle throughout the tie whereas Qatar had as many as nine such tackels which highlighted India's domination over their rivals. The losers though had eight effective tackles to India's five.

India also had more 'Try' -- three as against two by Qatar.

Earlier, India had suffered humiliating defeats to China and Sri Lanka 0-41 and 0-48 respectively in the preliminary round Group B league matches to bow out of medal contention.
