Haryana, Maryland to research on Bird Flue vaccine

Chandigarh, Dec 11 (UNI) Choudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agriculture University (CCSHAU), Hisar, and University of Maryland College of Agriculture and Natural Resources will soon conduct joint research for developing vaccines to combat poultry diseases such as Bird flu and New Castle.

Minister for Economic Development of Prince George County Patricia Hayers-Parker told reporters here today that the patent of the vaccine developed through this research would be held by both the Universities and a Japanese company would be roped in for the mass production of these vaccines.

Mrs Hayers-Parker said CCSHAU had entered into MOU with University of Maryland, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources to promote and accelerate the programmes of research, training and extension.

A group of scientists from University of Maryland College of Agriculture and Natural Resources visited Hisar to develop a work plan covering Animal Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Horticulture and Curriculum Development. This development was the result of the initiatives of Haryana Governor A R Kidwai, she added.

Mrs Patricia Hayers-Parker said the purpose of her visit to India was to follow up the agreement and also to decide future course of action. A final review meeting was held with the Haryana Governor yesterday to discuss various aspects of business development between both the states and to tap the trade and commerce opportunities.

The Governor emphasised in the meeting the need on increasing the ties in the field of agriculture, education, IT and bio-technology and acquainted the visiting Minister about the opportunity available in Haryana for expanding the mutual cooperation between both Haryana and Maryland.

Dr Kidwai said the outsourcing work of banking, insurance, accounts taken by the Indian firms of the US and other European countries has been going on very successfully.

Mrs Parker said that Maryland was a hub of knowledge and research which could be mutually exchanged to benefit both the states of Maryland and Haryana. Engineering and Construction firms alliances could also be formed to assist in raising infrastructure.
