Developed societies emit more carbon in atmosphere: Kalam
Tirupati, Dec 11 (UNI) Expressing concern over the widespread increase of the carbon emission in the atmosphere, President A P J Abdul Kalam today said highly-developed societies across the world were responsible for its rapid augmentation that affected the atmosphere.
Inaugurating the 11th International Worskhop on Technical and Scientific Aspects of MST Radar at the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL) at Gadanki near here, the President said 90 per cent of power generation relied on fossil fuels like coal, gas and oil which were responsible for the carbon emission and added, ''the world must shift its focus to clean energy resources like wind, solar, nuclear and bio-fuel to protect the environment''.
Referring to Mr Tim Flannery's book 'The Weather Makers', he said the author had pointed out the rapid increase of carbon in the atmosphere during the 20th century.
The President said the NARL was providing excellent information on lower atmospheric winds and changes in the atmosphere for the past one-and-a-half decades.
