Demo against Rly Minister's order to remove Kannada nameboards
Mysore, Dec 11 (UNI) Various Kannada organisations today staged a protest demonstration in front of the railway station here, condemning the Railway Minister's order to remove Kannada nameboards in rail coaches.
The agitators urged the Minister to withdraw the order, which hurt the sentiments of the people of the State, and demanded that the Union Government accord classical language status to Kannada.
They alleged that Union Ministers and Members of Parliament from Karnataka did not voice their protest against the Railway Minister's order.
Kannada activists also staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in the city against the 'stepmotherly' treatment meted out by the Centre to Kannada and demanded speedy implementation of the Mahajan Commission report.
