Congress to organise Vikas Yatras in Uttaranchal and U P

Jalandhar, Dec 11 (UNI) Encouraged by the success of Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh's Vikas Yatra, the Congress is planning to organise similar yatras in Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal where assembly elections are due in Feburary along with Punjab.

Union Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni told reporters today that the party was happy with the response of the people to Captain Singh's ongoing Punjab Vikas Yatra.

Ms Soni said since the Congress is also in power in Uttaranchal, ''we might organise similar Vikas Yatras to highlight the N D Tiwari Government's achievements among the voters of that state.'' In Uttar Pradesh, the party might go to the voters to expose the failures of Muluyam Singh government, she said and added that other modalities of the yatra would be decided by the party leadership.
