FBP extended to control Ganga erosion

New Delhi, Dec 11: The Centre has extended the jurisdiction of the Farakka Barrage Project(FBP) in Malda and Murshidabad districts of West Bengal to check erosion on river Ganga, Union Minister of State for Water Resoruces Jaiprakash Yadav today said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

He said the FBP's jurisdiction had been extended 40 km in the upstream and 80 Km in the downstream of Farakka Barrage in 2005.

Mr Yadav said the FBP has undertaken erosion works along the banks of river Ganga in its extended juridiction n 2005-06 and 2006-07 successfully. The FBP has completed anti-erosion works on river Ganga in the critical reaches.
