Bank of India, M S P Mumbai enter quarter finals

Pune, Dec 11 (UNI) Bank of India, Mumbai scraped past Dilbahar, Kolhapur 6-5 in sudden death while Maharashtra State Police, Mumbai defeated Hyderabad 2-0 to enter the quarterfinals of the late Surendra Anand Memorial invitational football tournament here today.

In the pre-quarterfinals played at the AFK grounds today, both Bank of India and Dilbahar, Kolhapur played a 1-1 at full time forcing a tie-break. Sachin Patil broke the 0-0 deadlock in the 41st minute, scoring a goal from a free kick. Six minutes later Bank of India striker Shahanawaz Ansari scored the equalizer off a pass from Christiano to level the scores.

In the tie-break, Bank of India' Krishna Naidu missed a goal and so did Dilbahar's Vikas Dahale. The scores stood even at 5-5. In the sudden death, Amit Yadav held his nerves to find the mark and take his team to a 6-5 lead. Anthony Dias missed the goal for Dilbahar and their chances of making it to the next round. The award of the best player went to defender Munir Sheikh of Bank of India.

Maharashtra State Police, Mumbai defeated Hyderabad XI 2-0 in the second pre-quarter match. Reyaz Sheikh scored in the 22nd minute while Sandeep Badkar scored in the 47th minute from a pass from Riyaz Sheikh. Riyaz Sheikh was named the 'man of the match'.
