Amarinder promises wheat, pulses at subsidised rates
Garhshankar, Hoshiarpur, Dec 11 (UNI) To provide relief to the people from rising prices, the Punjab Government will provide wheat flour and pulses (Urad and Arhar) to needy families at subsidised rates, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh announced today.
Talking to reporters during the third phase of his Punjab Vikas Yatra, Capt Singh said that his government would make these two essential commodities to needy people at cheaper rates through the civil supply department.
He said that the process of procuring wheat is being expedited.
Capt Singh said that the facility would be available both to the families below the poverty line(BPL) and those above the poverty line(APL).
However, the rates were still being worked out, he added.
The chief minister said that he had already shared his government's concern over the rise in prices of essential commodties and Prime Minister was also contemplating steps to address the situation.
Mr Singh also ridiculed Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) president and former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal's promise of providing wheat flour and pulses to poor at a rate of Rs 4 and Rs 20 per Kg respectively if his party came to power after the assembly elections.
Capt Singh said that Mr Badal was in the opposition and he only required to make promises and not to arrange things.
Prior to this Capt Singh began the third phase of his yatra from Ballachaur in Nawanshahar district and would reach Hoshiarpur this evening.
Union Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni was also accompanying the chief minister while Congress state president Shamsher Singh also joined him for sometime.
