2 LeT militants arrested; Large quantity of explosives seized

New Delhi, Dec 11 (UNI) Days ahead of the fifth anniversary of the Parliament attack, two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) have been arrested from South Delhi's Mahipalpur area and 1.5 kg explosives seized from them, police said.

Gulzar Ahmed Ganai alias Mustafa (20) and Mohammad Amin Hazam (29), both residents of the Kashmir Valley, were arrested near the airport last night by the Special Cell of the Delhi police.

Security at airports across the country, including Delhi and surrounding areas, has been beefed up after intelligence reports that militants could strike in an attempt to secure the release of death-row convict Mohammad Afzal Guru, who was convicted in the Parliament attack case.

During the past two months, 13 terrorists have been nabbed in Delhi.

Besides the explosives, two detonators and Rs six lakh were also recovered from the accused.

Special Cell DCP Alok Kumar said LeT district commander in Baramulla's Pattan area Mohammad Akmal, a Pakistani national code named Abu Tahir, had sent Gulzar and his associate to Delhi, Mumbai and other parts of India to collect the explosives and the money received through Hawala for terror activities.

''The two had recently collected the explosives and money in Mumbai near the Gateway of India from one Nazir and had just returned recently.

''At the time of their arrest they were moving to their hideout in Mahipalpur, where they were living for the past two months,'' Mr Kumar said.

He said both the accused were to deliver the consignment on further directions from Tahir.

The DCP ruled out any link between the terror alert on airports and the accused.

''So far no link has been established... they were to deliver the consignment in Delhi.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that they are active LeT members and came in contact with with Abu Tahir in November last year.

Tahir had motivated the two to join the banned organisation.

Mr Kumar said they had collected the Hawala funds from Delhi earlier also and delivered it to Tahir in Pattan.
