Modernisation of Mysore water supply system approved
Mysore, Dec 9 (UNI) The Centrally-sponsored Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission's (JNNURM) Steering Committee has approved the Rs 194 crore project for modernisation of the Mysore water supply system.
Mysore City Corporation Commissioner Dr K N Chandrashekhar met the Committee members yesterday in New Delhi and explained the present water distribution system and the problems being faced by the residents. After discussions, the Committee approved the project which envisaged replacement of entire old pipe line, construction of overhead tanks and booster pump houses.
According to Dr Chandrashekar, a total of Rs 239 crore (Rs 45 crore for slum development) had been sanctioned under the project. A detailed project report for the entire remodelling of underground drainage would be submitted shortly to the Union Urban Development Ministry. Earlier, the entire project report was prepared by Deccan Consultants, Bangalore, after consultations with the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board.
He said tenders would be invited during January 2007 and the work would commence in February or March next year. The project would also ensure clean water supply to the city round the clock. The Centre had also approved another project worth Rs 45 crore to construct 2,800 houses in 20 slums.
