Cautious debate needed on Judicial Accountability Bill: CJI
Patna, Dec 9 (UNI) Chief Justice of India Y K Sabharwal today vouched for the Judicial Accountability Bill and advocated a ''cautious discussion on it to keep intact the faith in legislation and judiciary.
In his inaugural speech on the two-day national seminar on ''Erosion of values in judicial system and its refurbishment'', organised under the aegis of Bihar State Bar Council and Bar Council of India, he said a country could not progress if it had no trust in the Supreme Court and High Courts.
Mr Sabharwal admitted there was corruption at lower level in judiciary, but said judicial officers were alone not responsible for it.
''All sections associated with judiciary right from law makers, its executors, litigants and lawyers equally responsible for corruption in judiciary,'' he said.
The CJI stressed that the judicial system should be committed absolutely to the values of truth, fairness and justice.
For effectiveness of judicial system, all stakeholders, including judges, lawyers, litigants and staff, should unitedly guard the values for which the judiciary was established by the architects of Constitution, he said.
