Freezing cold in Delhi, maximum plummets to 20.5 Degree Celsius

New Delhi, Dec 8 (UNI) After a slight abatement in chill over the past week due to cloudy weather, freezing cold conditions today returned to the capital as the maximum temperature plummeted to 20.5 Degree Celsius.

It was a freezing cold weather in Delhi as the temperature dropped from 23 degree C yesterday to 20.5 degree C today, nearly four degree below normal.

The minimum temperature since yesterday too dropped to ten degree Celsius, from 10.9 degree C.

Adding to the chilly conditions were the cold North Westerly winds which forced many Delhiites to remain confined to their shelters.

The chill in the air is likely to intensify in the coming days with the weathermen forecasting a further fall in mercury in the next 24 hours. Infact, weathermen have forecast a drop in minimum temperature to nine Degree C tomorrow.

Further, weathermen have forecast a considerable drop in both day and night temperatures from December 12 due to a fresh Western disturbance affecting the Western Himalayan region and the adjoining northern plains.

''A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan region and adjoining northern plains on December 10 and 11. Subsequently both day and night temperatures over Northwest India are likely to fall considerably from December 12 onwards,''the weather office said.

The return to chill comes following a week which saw a rise in night temperature in Delhi due to a build up of clouds.

Weathermen have forecast a partly cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours though mist or shallow fog would prevail in the morning.
