Alyque gives 'pearls of wisdom' to NID's 222 graduating students

Ahmedabad, Dec 8 (UNI) Renowned advertising guru Alyque Padamsee has urged the students of the National Institute of Design (NID) to retain the ''emotional quotient'' in their works as that alone would help them leave indelible imprints in the minds of people.

Speaking at the 27th Convocation of the design institute, the man who created the ever popular 'Lalitaji' (in the Surf ad) said mere slogan lines 'eklie ya do, bas' or filling messages with 'dont's' and ''what to do' would not make an impact on the 'emotional retina' of the people. ''The messages should be communicative and motivating. If you want your work to be lasting, then it must have the emotional charm,'' he told the students yesterday.

Through a power point presentation, Padamsee, who is also a Communications consultant, pointed out the grave impact images could have. ''Visual images are more powerful than words. They appeal to the heart directly and do not go through intellect.'' A total of 222 students of the NID convocated this year. Of these, 140 were Post Graduates and 82 undergraduates. Of them, 36 were fine arts graduates, 35 engineers and 31 architects.

Addressing the gathering, NID Director Darlie O' Koshy underlined the achievements of the institute in the recent past. ''There is an explosion of creativity in the institute and the students are leading charge. At least 28 students who have won second and first prizes in various national and international competitions are among those graduating today.'' He also pointed out that the Microft USA had chosen NID as one of the seven institutions in the world to participate in their competition on 'Ubiquitous Computing'.''Our team had been commended for presenting the 'best concept.''
