YSR lays foundation stone for Gokaldas Exports unit

Hyderabad, Dec 7(UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today laid the foundation stone for Gokaldas Exports' new facility at Nacharam here.

To be built at a cost of Rs 25 crore, the facility would be spread over nine acre and house 2,000 machines. It would provide direct employment to 2,500 persons and indirect employment to 2,000 persons. Gokaldas Exports Director Rajendra Hinduja said the new facility was part of the company's large-scale expansion plans.

When the facility goes on stream, the annual production would increase from the current 24 million pieces of garments to 26 million in 2007 and 30 million in 2008.

The Andhra Pradesh Government's support and availability of cheap and skilled labour were the prime reasons for Gokaldas to set up a facility here which would cater to brands like Nike, Pierre Cardin, Adidas, Tommy Hilfiger and Reebok, he added.
