Vakil Housing Devp. Corp launches 'Bangalore Food Bank'

Bangalore, Dec 7 (UNI) In an effort to discharge its social obligation, Vakil Housing Development Corporation today launched 'Bangalore Food Bank', which would collect and distribute food from the haves to the havenots.

Announcing its launch here, Company Chief Executive Officer Vakil said this unique, pioneering initiative was aimed at fighting hunger in the city.

Under the scheme, it was planned to collect food such as raw rice, dal, wheat and sugar regularly from different donors spread across the city and send to orphanges, old age homes and other associations every week after cleaning and packing it.

Mr Vakil said free jars would be provided to each donor, who could fill it in a month's time and the same would be collected from the donor's house. ''Just a fistful of one type of pulse into the jar everyday is sufficient to fill it in a month,'' he added.

He said he was inspired to launch the initiative by the success of a scheme launched by Kanchi Mutt 13 years ago.
