UP constitutes 8-member committee to deal with SEZs

Lucknow, Dec 7 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh Government has constituted an eight-member empowered committee to boost development in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in the state and address any hurdles therein.

The state Chief Secretary would head the empowered committee on SEZs, Udyog Bandhu sources said here this evening.

Other nominated members include Industrial Development Commissioner, Principal Secretary/Secretary Finance, Principal Secretary/Secretary Institutional Finance, Principal Secretary Labour, Principal Secretary Environment and Pradeshiya Industrial Corporation of Uttar Pradesh (PICUP) Managing Director.

The Principal Secretary/Secretary of Industrial Development Department has been made the convenor of the committee.

The newly constituted body has been mandated to give pace to the process of setting up of SEZs and act as a facilitator in solving problems and removing hurdles.

The empowered committee would evaluate various SEZ proposals from the private sector against the backdrop of central and state government regulations and guidelines.

Sources informed the body would consider recommending SEZ proposals to the centre as per the SEZ Act 2005 of the central government.

The committee would deal with other issues related to setting up and functioning of SEZ as and when directed by the state government.
