Andhra Pradesh: TRS Chief wins by thumping margin

Hyderabad, Dec 7: Former Union Minister and TRS President K Chandrasekhara Rao retained the Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat, defeating his nearest Congress rival T Jeevan Reddy by more than one lakh votes today.

Mr Rao was declared elected in the December four bypoll to the Karimanagar parliamentary constituency in Andhra Pradesh after the final round of counting.

Former Union Minister of State for Home and BJP candidate Ch Vidyasagar Rao, who represented the LS seat in 1999, lost his deposit in a multi-cornered contest.

Telugu Desam Party candidate L Ramana, who had also earlier represented the seat, was placed third.

Mr Rao had in 2004 won the Karimnagar seat with more than 1.4 lakh votes. The bypoll was necessitated following Mr Rao's resignation on the issue of separate statehood for Telangana.
