Nagpur, Dec 7 (UNI) The toll, being collected from road users, on the old Mumbai-Pune highway will continue since its widening and strengthening had been done on BOT (build, operate, transfer) basis, Minister for Public Works Anil Deshmukh told the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly today.

In a written reply to Baburao Pacharne (BJP) and several others, Mr Deshmukh said the Union Government had entered into a contract with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) in May 2004 for converting the road into a four-lane highway on BOT basis.

As per the contract, the period for recovery of toll was 30 years, therefore, action could not be taken to withdraw the toll, he said.

Brain mapping: The brain mapping, polygraphy and narco analysis facilities at the Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Mumbai will begin functioning this month, Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, who also holds the Home portfolio, told the House in a written reply today.

Mr Patil said an amount of Rupees 1 crore had been spent on equipment and infrastructure to set up the facility. Earlier, the accused in serious and complicated cases were being taken for brain mapping to Bangalore and Ahmedabad, the only other centres where the facility was available in the country so far, he said.

The government was contemplating a departmental enquiry against senior administrative officer Govind Swaroop for the alleged irregularities when he was Managing Director of Film city in Goregaon, Mumbai, Mr Patil said in another written reply.

Local people's representatives had submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Chief Secretary on February 14 last, he said.
