Three BOT contracts awarded under NHDP Phase III

New Delhi, Dec 7 (UNI) The NHAI has awarded three contracts for development of National Highways sections in Chattisgarh, Maharashtra and Punjab under Phase III A of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP).

The design, engineering, finance, construction, operation and maintenance of these contract packages, covering a total length of 206 km, would be carried out on Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis.

Letters of Acceptance (LOAs) for these contracts were issued by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) this week.

The concession period for all the packages is 20 years, including construction period of 30 months.

In Chhattisgarh, 83 km of highways connecting Durg bypass-Chhatisgarh-Maharashtra border, involving a total cost of Rs 29 lakh, has been awarded to Ashoka-IDFC Consortium, Nashik.

Ashoka-IDFC consortium has bagged another project for constructing and developing 80 km of National Highways onnecting Chhattisgarh-Maharashtra border and Wainganga Bridge.

In Punjab, 42.9 km of highways linking Kurali with Kiratpur has been awarded to BSCPL-C&C Consortium, Hyderabad.

So far, under NHDP Phase III A, a total of 21 contracts, spanning nearly 1326 km, have been awarded.

The current round of awards under Phase III closely follow the recent contracting of six ADB-funded projects on the Hyderabad-Bangalore section of NH-7, under Phase II of NHDP, covering nearly 250 km at a total project cost of Rs 1,335 crore.

In March, the Government had approved upgradation and four-laning of 4,000 km of National Highways on BOT basis under NHDP Phase-III A at an estimated cost of Rs 22,000 crores (2004 prices).

The Government also approved preparation of DPRs (Detailed Project Reports) for another 6,000 km under NHDP-Phase III, taking the total to 10,000 km under this phase.

The objective of NHDP-Phase III is to 4-lane high density traffic corridors not covered by NHDP Phase-I (mainly the Golden Quadrilateral) and NHDP Phase-II (North-South and East-West corridors), connect state capitals with Phase I and Phase II and link centres of tourism and places of economic importance.
