Information Technology expo begins in Manipur
Imphal, Dec 7: The Manipur Information Technology Expo 2006 (MITEX 2006) began today at the Khuman Lampak stadium, Imphal.
The three day expo showcased computer, mobile and other electronic gadgets. Almost all the leading brands were displayed in about 25 stalls.
Interestingly the entire area was made Wifi enabled so that anybody can use internet free of cost at the area. The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Imphal Sub Centre and Department of Science and Technology were the organizers.
The Organising Secretary H Kulachandra said the main objective of the was to promote technology and the main focus was on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Prospect, Strategies and Securities aspects in North East region.
IT has good potential in the state and over 500 people were working in the IBM alone from the region he said.
The NASCOM has announced that around 8,50,000 people would be given employment within the next two years and the people from the region should take advantage of the job opportunities.
Kulachandra said the explosive growth of ICT has changed the perspective of quality life in India, transforming from merely an agriculture based economy to a knowledge based economy. Though, India has been able to carve out a distinctive place in the world in the application of ICT enabled industries and services, the actual benefits of ICT in the rural India is far from visible.
