TDP demands recounting of votes in Bobbili LS bypoll

Hyderabad, Dec 7 (UNI) Within Hours of declaration of the Bobbili Lok Sabha constituency results in Vizianagaram district, TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu urged the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to order a recounting of votes in the constituency in view of the ''confusion'' created in votes majority.

In a letter to the CEC, copy released to the Press here today, the former Chief Minister said while in almost all the rounds of counting, the TDP was in comfortable majority but at the end it was said that the Congress had a majority of 1014 votes.

Mr Naidu said there was some ''calculated'' confusion in the counting of votes in all the assembly segments and demanded the recouting of votes on Electronic Voting Machines.

He alleged the' manipulation'of 501 votes in Terlam and 500 votes in Echerla segments and also in postal ballot votes.

To avoid such a confusion and to set right the ''wrong figures'' displayed from time to time and also to dispense justice, he urged the CEC for recounting of votes in all the seven Assembly segments.

The Congress candidate B Jhansi was declared elected from the Bobbili constituency with a slender margin of 157 votes.
