Sensex opens up by 13 points at 13,962.94

Mumbai, Dec 7: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex today opened high by around 13 points at 13,962 from it's last close of 13,949.00 points, brokers said.

The BSE Sensex was volatile at the opening of the session today.

At 30 shares Sensex was up 14.41 points, at 13,964.75. It had opened firm at 13,962.94 and hit an intra-day high of 13,987.71. It also touched a low of 13,920.40.

Meanwhile, S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) resumed flat at 4015 points. The Nifty index recorded high at 4027.70 points and low at 4002.90 points during the intra day session. The current index is quoted high by three points at 4018.70 from it's last close of 4015.95 points.

Housing finance major HDFC was the top loser, down 1.42 per cent to Rs 1,567, on a volume of 6,464 shares.

ONGC (down 0.80 per cent to Rs 858), Wipro (down 0.74 per cent to Rs 585.50) and Hero Honda (down 0.51 per cent to Rs 763.50) followed.

Hindalco was the top gainer, up 1.01 per cent to Rs 179.65, as 1.33 lakh shares got transacted on the BSE.

Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) rose 0.95 per cent to Rs 1,293, on a volume of 1.06 lakh shares.

US stocks fell yesterday as concerns about the outlook for software maker Oracle Corporation hit technology shares and investors worried that stronger-than-expected job growth can delay a cut in interest rates.

The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 22.35 points, or 0.18 per cent, to end at 12,309.25. The Standard&Poor's 500 Index finished of at 1.86 points, or 0.13%, at 1,412.90.

The Nasdaq Composite Index fell 6.52 points, or 0.27%, to close at 2,445.86.

US crude oil for January delivery fell 24 cents to settle at USD 62.19 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange on Wednesday, brokers added.
