Renu Jogi wins Kota assembly seat

Bilaspur, Dec 7 (UNI) Congress' Renu Jogi, wife of former chief minister Ajit Jogi, today won the Kota assembly seat in Chhattisgarh by a margin of 21258 votes.

Ms Jogi defeated her nearest BJP rival Bhupendra Singh Thakur in the bypoll, held on December 4.

Ms Jogi, who was contesting her maiden election, was an assistant professor in Opathalmology in the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical college here. She quit her job to look after her husband Ajit Jogi, who had sustained severe spinal cord injuries in a road accident two and a half years ago.

The Congress has retained the seat.

The bypoll result coincides with the BJP government in the state led by Dr Raman Singh completing three years in office today.
