New Delhi, Dec 7 (UNI) AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa, who met Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav here yesterday, today said there would soon be a political alignment at the national and state levels.

Talking to reporters after attending a function at Parliament House where a statue of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M G Ramachandran was unveiled, Ms Jayalalithaa, however, refused to go into the details of the political changes expected.

The AIADMK leader said the DMK government in Tamil Nadu should have gone to the Supreme Court on the Mullaiperiyar dam issue after Chief Ministers M Karunanidhi and V S Achuthaanandan had failed to resolve the problem at a meeting last week.

There was no point in holding a meeting between the PWD Ministers of Tamil Nadu and Kerala to thrash out the problem relating to raising the height of the dam from 136 ft to 142 ft as allowed by the apex court, she contended.

On the proposed women's reservation Bill, Ms Jayalalithaa said ''it is a tragedy it is not being enacted'' despite the presence of several powerful women in politics.

Asked about the centre's reported move for removing the Mulayam Singh Yadav's government in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the assembly polls, she said it was highly condemnable.

Imposition of President's rule in Uttar Pradesh would boomerang on the Congress and result in the Samajwadi Party returning to power with a greater majority, she said.

Ms Jayalalithaa criticised the DMK for boycotting the MGR statue unveiling function, stating that the late leader had transcended politics and had been awarded the nation's highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna.

However, she declined to comment on the absence of Congress President Sonia Gandhi at the function. ''You ask her'' (Sonia), was her reply.

Besides boycotting the function, the DMK had put obstacles to the efforts in getting a statue of MGR installed in Parliament, she said.

Also, it was the AIADMK which had taken the initiative and succeeded in unveiling the statues of Anna and Periyar in Parliament, she said.
