Police foils self-immolation attempt

Cuddalore, Dec 7 (UNI) Police arrested a man for trying to immolate himself in front of the District Collectorate here today.

Police said R Palanivel(27) of Notchikuppam resorted to the extreme step in protest against the government's move to acquire 20 cents from the one acre land he possessed here to lay a road.

Though the man poured diesel over him, he was stopped by the police before he could lit himself.
