TN: Periyar statue damaged by HMK activists

Srirangam (Tamil Nadu), Dec 7: Tension gripped the holy town of Srirangam as a life-size statue of Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) party founder, popularly known as Periyar E V Ramasamy, was damaged here by activists of Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK), early today.

The Deputy Commissioner of police (Law and Order) M Rajasekharan told 'UNI' four activists of HMK, all hailing from Coimbatore District, were caught red-handed by the police at 0445 hrs.

The miscreants have been identified as Manickam (41) Vice President HMK Coimbatore District, Senthil Kumar 9330 Coimbatore District Secretary of HMK, Rajasekaran (28) party's District Youth-wing Secretary and Sujeet 9320 District Union Secretary.
