One-man commission to probe suspected food poisoning case

Pune, Dec 7 (UNI) A one-man commission has been instituted to probe the incidence of suspected food poisoning reported to as many as 64 sportspersons participating in a training cum coaching camp here on Tuesday after suffering bouts of vomiting and stomach disorders.

All the affected were rushed to a nearby Dhanvantri Hospital in Baner. However, after the treatment, 62 were allowed to go back on the same night while two of them who were reported to be serious were hospitalised. After spending a night, the two youths also were discharged from the hospital, Maharashtra Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Director Mr C K Anil told UNI today.

The camp was organised by the Maharashtra government at the Shiv Chhtarapati Sports City Mahalunge-Balewdi near here. The services of the catering contractor has been terminated forthwith, he said.

Medical incharge at the complex Dr Chandrakant Garudkar said as many as 172 youths. both boys and girls were undergoing a training cum coaching camp in the art of self defence ''Sowyam Sidha'' organised by the Maharashtra department of sports and youth services and had taken dinner at the mess around 2000 hrs on Tuesday. Barely after two hours, 64 of them complained of vomitting and loose motions and were rushed to a neaby hospital.

The ten-day camp which got underway on December one will conclude on December 10.
