Naxal groups to go to Singur tomorrow

Kolkata, Dec 7 (UNI) Joining the Singur issue in a bigger way, top leaders of two Naxalite groups in West Bengal will lead a march to the proposed site for the Tata car project in Hooghly district tomorrow demanding that the Government stop acquiring farm land.

CPI(ML) Liberation General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya and CPI(ML) leader Kanu Sanyal will be among the participants.

They, however, ruled out any joint movement with Ms Mamata Banerjee.

" When she was in the Congress or with the NDA as a Minister, Ms Banerjee had never raised her voice on similar issues in Orissa or in Chhattisgarh. What she is now doing is to extract political mileage out of the Singur issue, " they asserted.

Alleging that the Left Front Government was no different from the UPA and NDA in grabbing farmers' land, Mr Bhattacharya said the administration in West Bengal had violated democracy by 'forcibly' acquiring agricultural land.

" We condemn the way the West Bengal Government has acquired Singur land with the help of police. It has been done the way the UPA Government and the previous one of the NDA have done in other states, " he said.

Declaring that the Naxalites would fight for the Singur farmers, he demanded unconditional release of those arrested.

Accusing Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee of serving the interests of big capitalists and imperialist forces, veteran Naxalite leader Kanu Sanyal said the Singur had thrown up a "moral question".

" This Government is acting under the garb of Marxism. All of us should protest what it is doing by proposing to take over 40,000 acre of land for setting up industries, " he said.

Mr Sanyal said tomorrow they would try to hold talks with the local farmers at Singur though prohibitory orders under Section 144 Cr PC had been clamped in the area.

" We are not going there to fight with guns. But we want to make our stand clear and organise the people. If we are stopped, we will go there again, " he said.
