Meghalaya to implement CIPA in Police stations

Shillong, Dec 7: Meghalaya police constables soon would no longer need pen and paper to registers FIRs, general diaries and registration of complaints in Shillong as state police is almost set to implement the Common Integrated Police Application (CIPA).

The Integrated Police Application is intended to link 11502 police stations across the country. These police stations would also link with the union Home Ministry and state police headquarters through the National Informatic Centre.

At present, he said necessary hardware and software installations have been completed in ten police stations including a CID police station.

Every police station have been fitted with three computers and two printers for this purpose.

Mr Dkhar said the second phase, which is in the process of getting connected to the main network, would be implanted in eight stations. He added the third and final state would be to digitize rest of the stations and networking with National Crime Research Bureau in New Delhi.

"The attempt is to create paperless police station by implementing e-governance," state Deputy Inspector General of Police (CID) B R Rana told UNI here.

He said the greatest advantage of CIPA is 'tamper proof' for a registered case and reducing report generation time manually.

"We have already trained our sub-inspectors and constables to operate the system," the DIG said.
