MCD puts 215 units to seal, traders protest DDA commercial auctions

New Delhi, Dec 7 (UNI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi today put to seal 215 units in Shahdara(South) and Najafgarh zones.

The units sealed by the MCD today included 123 in Madhu Vihar, falling in Shahdara (South) Zone. and 92 units at Rohtak Road in Najafgarh Zone.

With today's sealing, the total number of units sealed by the MCD since the resumption of the sealing drive on December 8 as per orders of the Supreme court is 2789.

Meanwhile, the traders today protested against the DDA organising commercial auctions of shops while failing to bring out a package for rehabilitating traders affected by sealing.

The Trade Leaders demanded immediate moratorium on DDA for making any commercial auction.

They said the DDA in its lust of securing more and more money has kept aside its role as city planner and has actually become a builder by making commercial auctions that are fetching handsome money.

''Now the question is, if the Government decides to rehabilitate displaced traders, the same DDA will wash off its hand due to non-availability of commercial space and therefore, the Goverment must restrain DDA from any further commercial auction,'' the Confederation of All India Traders said in a statement.

The CAIT demanded Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy and his Minister of state for Urban development Ajay Maken to immediately restrain DDA from making any commercial auction at least for the next one year.

Meanwhile, the Sealing Chetna Week of traders entered into its fourth day today with hundreds of traders from different markets of West Delhi moving from Pankha Road in Sealing Chetna Yatra and going round in various prominent markets of West Delhi.
