LDF retains Thiruvambadi by narrow margin
Kozhikode, Dec 6 (UNI) The ruling Left Democratic Front today retained the Thiruvambadi assembly seat, for which bypoll was held on December 4.
LDF's George M Thomas (CPI-M) defeated his nearest rival V M Ummer of the Indian Union Muslim League by a narrow margin of 246 votes.
Mr Thomas polled 64,112 votes against his UDF rival, who got 63,866 votes, while BJP's Girish Thevalli could get only 4,758 votes.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of the CPI(M) leader Mathai Chacko.
