Karnataka, UP gain first innings lead
Hyderabad, Dec 7 (UNI) Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh (UP) gained first innings lead over their rivals Hyderabad and Rajasthan respectively in the drawn first round matches of the All India U-17 Vijay Merchant Trophy being played here today.
Rajasthan's late recovery proved futile as they lost the grip over the match against UP to whom they conceded 76 runs first innings lead.
Rajasthan declared their second innings at 301 for the loss of 7 wickets in 74 overs. Deepak Patil (86 off 126 balls, 14x4), Ankit Lamba (47 off 67 balls, 4x4) and Ashok Manaria (51 not out off 58 balls, 2x4) were the main scorers for Rajasthan.
Mohd Khalid (4/81) and Prashant Awasthi (2/47) were the pick of UP bowlers. Later, UP made 67 losing one wicket with Akash Varma scoring half century (50 off 61 balls, 10x4).
UP collected two points as the match ended in a draw.
At Gymkhana Grounds, Karnataka gained two points with 119-run first innings lead over hosts Hyderabad.
Karnataka declared their first innings at 370/9 in 115 overs after Arjun Hoyasala made a responsible 97 (231 balls, 9x4). Uttam Raj (34) was the other top scorer.
Among Hyderabad bowlers, Minash Gabriel took 3 for 96, Chandrakanth took 3 for 98 and Parth Jhala 2 for 31. Later Hyderabad made just 32 losing two wickets in 29 possible overs of play.

Uttar Pradesh 237 all out& 67/1 in 20 overs.
