Jt Excise Commissioner Mukesh Gambhir arrested on corruption charges

Faridabad, Dec 7 (UNI) Joint Excise Commissioner Mukesh Gambhir was today arrested from his residence by the police on corruption charges in the purchase of four cranes here, police sources said.

Mr Gambhir allegedly levied heavy interest charges on the cost of four cranes which were wrongly purchased by Rawat Cranes Private Limited. The cost of the four cranes was a total of Rs 70,000, on which the interest charges were labled so high that it amounted to Rs 30 lakh, police said.

Joint Excise Commissioner reportedly finally settled the issue for Rs five lakh and asked Rawat Crane owner to pay the amount to Inspector Navneet Chaddha. The matter was reported to the DGP, Haryana Government, leading to Mr Gambhir's arrest. An FIR has been logged with the police, SSP M S Sheoram added.
