Srinagar, Dec 7 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir police today claimed to have arrested am alleged rapist who had abducted a class X student from Hajin area in Baramulla district 11 days ago on November 27.

Police said they finally succeeded in apprehending the rapist from Dangerpora in Sopore area after days of hard toil.

They said on December one, Sonaullah Rather, a resident of Drugmulla in Kupwara district, lodged a complaint with the Kralgund police station stating that on November 27 his daughter, Kulsuma Bano, a class X student, had gone missing from his maternal uncle's house at Hajin.

During search, the complainant said both he and his uncle came to know that Bashir Ahmad Ganie, also a resident of Hajin, had abducted his daughter with the intention to rape her, police added.

They said an FIR was registered in the Kralgund police station and investigations taken up.

During the course of investigations, police said at least a dozen raids were conducted at the residence of the accused and his relatives in Handwara, Kupwara and Sopore areas.

Four people were detained for questioning in this regard and today on a specific information, investigation officer Abdul Hamid, rescued the girl from the clutches of the accused at Dangerpora in Sopore area, they added.

Police said the minor girl was sent for medical examination at the District Hospital in Handwara where it was proved that she had been sexually exploited by the accused.
