Tirupati, Dec 7 (UNI) The Japanese government has opened up its market for Indian Mangoes especialy the Banganapalli variety, grown in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh. Tirupati Parliament member Dr Chinta Mohan said today.

In a release here, he said a letter ,which was received from the Union Commerce Secretary G.K.Pillai, said as per the protocol signed between the two countries for mango exports, the mangoes have to be vapour heated.

A Vapour Heat Treatment(VHT) plant will be set up in Chittoor district, he added.

He said the Secretary has already requested the Andhra Pradesh Government to set up the facility for which 100 per cent assistance would be available from the Centre.

Mr Pillai said the government has been making efforts to secure market access for fresh and processed agro products in countries which imposed restrictions on import of the same on sanitary and phyto-sanitary considerations.

As a result of its efforts, Japan has opened up its market for Indian mangoes and also cleared for export the Banganapalli variety produced in Chittoor district which falls under the Agri Export Zone for mango pulp and vegetables, Mr Chinta Mohan said.

The exports will help the growers in Chittoor district to realize better price for their produce, he added.
