Jail inmate gives slip to police during medical check-up

Surat, Dec 7 (UNI) An inmate of Surat sub jail today escaped from police custody when he was brought to New Civil Hospital for medical check-up, police said.

Kanubhai Bhikubhai Gohil, convicted for abduction and rape of a girl, escaped from the hospital after attacking a policeman, who was removing his handcuff, when the convict said he wanted to go to the toilet, Varachcha police said.

The police party accompanying the convict have been suspended and investigations are on, police added.
