Intense coldwave in HP continues after snow in Lahaul Spiti

Shimla, Dec 7 (UNI) Intense coldwave conditions continue to prevail in Himachal Pradesh following a fresh spell of mild snowfall in the tribal district of Lahaul Spiti even as the weather remained dry in other parts of the state during the last 24 hours, the met sources said today.

Barring mild snowfall in several places of Lahaul Spiti district last night, there was no report of any snow and rain from other tribal districts, mid and lower hills of the state.

The sources said both Patsio and Keylong in Lahaul Spiti district recorded four cm of snowfall each last night, intensifying coldwave conditions in the tribal and other adjoining areas of the state.

The 13,050-feet high Rohtang Pass was under more than five feet snowfall, closing the Manali-Leh road during the winter season.

The night temperatures in the tribal districts remained three to five degrees below normal, with Kalpa in Kinnuar district recording a night temperature of minus three degree Celsius.

Vehicular traffic has been suspended in Lahaul Spiti district following heavy snowfall in the district during the last few days and people have urged the state government to start helicopter services for ferrying people in exigencies.

The sources said mainly dry weather was recorded in Kinnuar, Kullu, Chamba, Sirmaur, Mandi, Kangra and Shimla districts and other mid and lower hills of the state during the last 24 hrs.
