Indo-Myanmar car rally leaves for Patna
Varanasi, Dec 7 (UNI) A fleet of 14 cars forming the New Delhi to Yangon Indo-Myanmar Car Rally, saluting the Indian and Myanmarese soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the second World War, left for Patna this evening.
The fleet with 45 Indian and Myanmar armymen on board had reached Varanasi this morning after traversing through Agra and Kanpur.
Interacting with mediapersons, Indian Team leader Colonel Adhiraj Chaterjee said the rally, flagged off from the India Gate by Defence Minister A K Antony on December 5, comprises 14 team including three from Myanmar.
It will cover a distance of over 8000 kms and traverse rugged mountains, dense forest and numerous rivers during its journey to Yangon and return to New Delhi.
The rallyists will pass through UP, Bihar, Assam, Nagaland and Manipur before entering Myanmar at Moreh. In Myanmar, they will transit through Tamu, Mandalay, Taungoo and finally reach Yangon, Col Chaterjee said.
This route will acquaint them with a number of historical battle fields of the Burma Campaign of World War II, where a number of Indian Army Regiments had won their Battle Honours with distinction, he added.
At Yangon, a commemorative ceremony will be organised at the Taukkyan War Cemetery, where the rallyist will pay homage to their departed Comrades with full military honours.
