Indian companies should grab opportunities in South Africa

Kochi, Dec 7 (UNI) Consul General of South Africa in India Buzi Kuzwayo today urged Indian corporates to grab the immense opportunities in African nation and give a fillip to the historic trade relationship between the countries.

Speaking at a function here, Ms Buzi said South Africa was open for business and the opporunities were aplenty for Indian companies.

She said the two countries had similar culture and a relationship based on 'trust'.

She said more interaction should take place between the countries for scaling new heights in bilateral cooperation.

''South Africa was grateful in receiving a lawyer in Gandhiji and the country produced a Mahatma for India.'' Consul for Economic Affairs Sudhir Mani said the trade between the countries had increased by 14 per cent in the last year.

He said the import of Indian automobiles in South Africa was very encouraging with TATA as market leader. Telecom service provider VSNL was the second largest land-line phone provider in the country.

He said the major challenge faced by two countries was to tackle the menace of poverty.

The tourism sector, mineral production, biotechnology, financial service were some of the growing sectors in South Africa, he added.
