India storm into women tennis team final
Doha, Dec 6 (UNI) Riding on the brilliance of Sania Mirza, India overpowered Uzbekistan taking an unassailable 2-0 lead to storm into the finals of the women tennis team competition at the Asian Games here tonight.
India, for whom this is their maiden entry into the final of this competition, will take on Japan in their battle for Gold.
Uznbekistan had stunned favourites China in the quarter finals yesterday.
Japan beat Chinese Taipei 2-0 in other semi-final.
Shikha Oberoi gave India the lead when she beat Akgul Amanmuradova 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 in a match which lasted over three hours.
Sania then made short work of Iroda Tulyaganova 6-3, 6-0 in just 54 minutes to wrap up the match in India's favour.
In the men's section, Japan set up a title clash with Korea. In the semi-finals, Japan beat Thailand and Korea beat Chinese Taipei by identical 2-1 margins.
